Privacy Policy

ASHT is bound by the Federal Government’s Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000. The Legislation includes ten National Privacy Principles that set out how private sector organisations should collect, use, keep secure and disclose personal information.

The principles want to let individuals a right to know what information an organisation holds about them and how to amend it if it is incorrect noting that there maybe special provisions for certain information.

Under this Act an organisation must have a policy document outlining its information handling practices and make the document available to anyone on request.

The Privacy Act gives you a number of rights including the following:

  • You must be told why personal information is being collected and whether it can be given to anyone else;
  • You have the right to request access to the information held about you and if necessary to have it corrected so that it is accurate, complete and up to date;
  • You have the right to have your personal information stored securely and protected from unauthorised access or misuse;
  • You have the right to know how your personal information will be used;
  • If you believe your privacy has been infringed you can make a complaint.

Privacy Notice and Student Declaration

Under the Data Provision Requirements 2012, AHTS is required to collect personal information about you and to disclose that personal information to the National Centre for Vocational Education Research Ltd (NCVER).

Your personal information (including the personal information contained on this enrolment form and your training activity data) may be used or disclosed by AHTS for statistical, regulatory and research purposes. AHTS may disclose your personal information for these purposes to third parties, including:

  • School – if you are a secondary student undertaking VET, including a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship;
  • Employer – if you are enrolled in training paid by your employer;
  • Commonwealth and State or Territory government departments and authorised agencies;
  • NCVER;
  • Organisations conducting student surveys; and
  • Researchers.

Personal information disclosed to NCVER may be used or disclosed for the following purposes:

  • Issuing a VET Statement of Attainment or VET Qualification, and populating Authenticated VET Transcripts;
  • facilitating statistics and research relating to education, including surveys;
  • understanding how the VET market operates, for policy, workforce planning and consumer information; and
  • administering VET, including program administration, regulation, monitoring and evaluation.

You may receive an NCVER student survey which may be administered by an NCVER employee, agent or third party contractor. You may opt out of the survey at the time of being contacted.

NCVER will collect, hold, use and disclose your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the VET Data Policy and all NCVER policies and protocols (including those published on NCVER’s website at

You will be asked to provide a Student Declaration and Consent to declare that the information you provide to the best of your knowledge is true and correct. You will also be asked to  consent to the collection, use and disclosure of your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Notice above.

Why we collect information

ASHT collects personal information from you:

  • To ensure you can be notified
  • For marketing purposes
  • Where it is required by legislation and/or regulation
  • As part of your enrolment and training program
  • To assist in the case of an emergency

What information we hold about you

ASHT holds personal information supplied by you and student results and copies your of assessments.

Disclosure of your information

Your information will be used to assess your eligibility for a course and to maintain contact with you.

Access to information

You may request in writing to the CEO of ASHT access to your records. Proof of identity will be required to ensure information is not disclosed to the wrong person.

Storage and security of information

Our security systems control access to record storage areas and electronic information is password protected. All staff are bound by the ASHT Confidentiality Policy.

Making a complaint

If you believe that your privacy has been infringed, your concerns may be addressed in writing to the CEO ASHT. If you are not satisfied with our response you can refer your complaint to the Federal Privacy Commissioner.

VET Data Use Statement

Under the Data Provision Requirements 2012 and VET Data Policy (which includes the National VET Provider Collection Data Requirements Policy), Registered Training Organisations are required to collect and submit data compliant with AVETMISS for the National VET Provider Collection for all Nationally Recognised Training. This data is held by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research Ltd (NCVER), and may be used for the following purposes, to:

  • issue a VET Statement of Attainment or VET Qualification, and populate Authenticated VET Transcripts
  • facilitate statistics and research relating to education, including surveys
  • understand how the VET market operates, for policy, workforce planning and consumer information; and
  • administer VET, including program administration, regulation, monitoring and evaluation.

AHTS will be asked as an RTO to complete a declaration and understanding that the information provided in the RTOs data submission is accurate and complete and confirm that the RTO understands that information provided in this data submission about client training and outcomes may appear on Unique Student Identifier transcripts.

This will includes that:

  • information provided in the data submission will only be used, accessed, published and disseminated according to the National VET Data Policy
  • if that information also includes personal information, the Privacy Act 1988  and Australian Privacy Principles, regulate the collection, use and disclosure of personal information.
  • information provided in the data submission may be used for the purposes outlined above, and
  • identified RTO level information that supports consumer information, transparency and understanding of the national VET market may be published in reports, tables and a range of other data products, including data cubes and websites.
